Future of CASH in Jeopardy
Loss of funding jeopardizes CASH’s ability to continue to help beleaguered community members find and maintain employment and independence. On June 20th at 6pm at the Harlem State Office Building CASH will be having its last Client Achievement Ceremony which salutes its clients who have achieved employment milestones.
Harlem, New York, June 7, 2011: Sweeping budget cuts throughout the State government have reached Harlem’s most vulnerable communities. In May 2011, Civic Association Serving Harlem Inc.(CASH), a non-profit organization which has provided comprehensive and vital social services to underserved communities in New York City, received notification from the state that it would be losing critical funding for its programs.
“This presents a devastating impact on the community, due to the existing disproportionate burdens already affecting this population,” stated Joseph Kelly, Founder and Executive Director of CASH.
“These State budget cuts are eliminating services within these underserved communities that have a multitude of individuals in need of a variety of services; employment being the first and foremost,” added Kelly.
CASH has been a keystone in the community for 36 years providing fundamental support for some of the city’s most underserved people. What began as a community program to provide safe passage for senior citizens in unsafe areas of Harlem, evolved into a multifaceted centralized community access point.
CASH’s dedication to services has not ended. CASH looks to recover some additional funding as soon as possible
CASH issues a thank you to the community whom they have served for many years.
On June 20th 2011, CASH will have the last Client Achievement Ceremony, saluting clients who have achieved employment milestones.
Please join CASH for this recognition ceremony.
